PRESS RELEASE
The first Polish mountain race of classic supercar models
100 YEARS OF SPEED – SUPERCAR CLASSIC
This weekend, on May 20-21, 2022, a rally of classic supercar models, with an exceptionally rich representation of Ferrari, will take place in Jelena Góra and Piechowice. It will be a real treat for sports car enthusiasts, especially since the winding and demanding roads in the Karkonosze Mountains have been a favourite place for organizing rally events for years. But not only professional rally drivers love difficult climbs and sharp turns. It is also an interesting adventure and quite a challenge for amateurs.
“It is a great celebration for enthusiasts of beautifully shaped cars and powerful V12 engines. Magic enchanted in the motorization of our dreams, which can be seen live at the exhibition at the Town Hall Square in Jelenia Góra and Piechowice during the Mountain Race. We have prepared one more surprise for fans – historical vehicles from the Jelenia Góra Automotive Museum will go on the route of the Górski Race. It will be a great experience for spectators as well as residents. I invite you and wish you great motoring emotions, ”says Ryszard Piotrowski, Commander of the Supercars Mountain Challenge rally.
The Supercars Mountain Challenge rally is divided into two stages. On Friday (May 20, 2022), supercars will visit the Town Hall Square in Jelenia Góra. Here it will be a great opportunity to see iconic Ferrari models such as Testarossa V12, 348 GTB, F 430, F8, and 599 GTB as well as less known models like 412. There will also be Mercedes and Porsche supercars with powerful 400- and 600-hp engines. The main attraction of the event will be a technical test to select the best driver as well as Elegance Competition, where contestants will have a chance to present their cars while driving through a specially prepared obstacle course.
On Saturday, May 21 between 9.00 am and 2.00 pm we invite you to the Mountain Race that will take place in Piechowice on an extremely spectacular route to Michałowice. This section of the road will be closed during these hours, but the fantastic competition will certainly compensate for the resulting difficulties.
“On a 3.5-kilometre stretch, the spectators will be able to see the real automobile beauty when they will be travelling at speed among the twisted Karonosze roads. We will enjoy both the eye and the ear, listening to the music flowing from the working, powerful engines. I can venture to say that it is not only a competition but also a kind of spectacle” says Paweł Chudziński, director of Wyścig Górski. And he adds – „We are planning two introductory runs and three timed runs. We have prepared four spectator zones located at the turns, including the passage through a tunnel carved in the rock. Due to the difficulty of the route and the power of cars, we kindly ask the spectators to strictly follow the Organizer’s guidelines, to stand only in designated places and not to cross barriers or lines marked with warning tapes. Together, we want to create a unique competition, but above all safe for both participants and fans. We put a lot of emphasis on safety”. Wojtek Szczodrowski, Chief Judge of the competition, echoes him – “The route from Piechowice to Michałowice is known to polish motorsport enthusiasts and has been used many times in the past in many Polish Mountain Motor Championships. The drivers will struggle with extremely difficult and demanding sections, and we, as organizers, will make every effort to ensure that it is not only fascinating but also safe.„
We invite everyone on Friday to the Jelenia Góra Town Hall Square and on Saturday to the fan zones in Michałowice and Piechowice. Details at www.supercarmountainchallenge.pl
